What in the world is this? Not for the squeemish.

The story:

  • Appeared on clean sheets after a vigorous vacuuming of mattress, bed and surrounding area.

  • Cylindrical and hard

  • Easily brushed off sheets

  • Does not dissolve in water

  • Concentrated in one area, under one of two people sleeping in the bed.

  • No noticeable bites.

OMG! This has been happening to us the past 2 mornings too, right out of nowhere! We only bought our mattress less than 6 months ago, we have a mattress protector over it, and it was an expensive mattress! We do have cats that sleep in the bed, but it is NOT litter from their feet. They look exactly as your photo and they are exactly as you have described them. The only thing my husband just mentioned is that both of us were away for a week- he stayed at the Sheraton in Seattle, while I stayed with my mom and slept on her couch. We are not dirty people!! We change our bedlines frequently, and our house is clean! We are both FREAKING out over this, and are scared to ask anybody because it looks so gross, and they might look at us like we are scumbags or something. Here's a test- we are meant to stay overnight someplace tonight. I want to see if they happen in that bed- then obviously the problem would be one of us- or if they appear in our bed tonight when we are not here. This is so gross, I've never seen a bedbug and I am terrified.

(I meant bedlinen, not bedlines! Oops.)

I am having the exact problem shown in your pictures.

-Hard black poppyseed-like things in the sheets.
-No bloodstains, no bites, none of the "classic" symptoms of bed bugs.

Did you ever figure out what this is? Thanks!

I have these exact same problem... i freaked out at first thinking it was flea dirt but realized they do not dissolve in water so it can't be flea dirt... I tried to look things up on the web and found nothing. Then something just hit me as I am writing the solutions to HW (I'm a TA) because I erase a lot and there are a lot of eraser debris... usually they are not black but I figured if they pick up fabric and random dust it might end up being black and if you leave it on your PJ's it might be transferred to the bed and then when you roll around it creates cylinder shapes... Hopefully that's what it is for me... I just went through a mad cleaning and will continue tomorrow.

Still trying to find answers to this issue, same descriptions. These dark specks show up on my side of the bed and mostly situated under the upper part of my body and on my side of the bed but not on my fiance's side. Even found a cluster under the pillow, and on it.
I know this issue/ thread is very dated but pls, Help!
